Air bags are deployed during a moderate to severe crash. Each car with an air bag has what's called crash sensors.
When something has impacted the crash sensors, it sends a signal to the Electronic Contol Unit, or ECU. Once the signal is
recieved, the inflators start to fill the bag with nitrogen or argon. When it fill up it's deployed to stop and support the
body. All this happens in less than 1/20th of a second. They cannot be resused, so do not drive your vehicle until the air
bag has been replaced.
